On the first day of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…an incredible group of people with whom to share Christmas. We had a “No-Fuss” Christmas pageant, written by Theresa E. Cho. It happens like this: buy props for characters. I bought 12 felt hearts for Marys, back packs and headscarves for 10 Josephs, at least 10 blow-up animal toys for the animals in the stable, candy cane “shepherd staffs” for at least 10 shepherds, tinsel for 20+ halos for angels, paper crowns (ala Burger King) for the wise people, and a star for them to follow. Invite congregation to participate in whichever way they choose.

Invite a group up (“Everyone who wants to be Mary, please come forward.”), dress them in their costume, set them around the Baby Jesus. Sing a carol. Invite up the next group (“Everyone who wants to be a farm animal, please come forward!”). Set them around the Baby Jesus. Sing a carol.

Easy as that. Touching, funny, and the best moment was when Daniel, who carried the star, walked through the entire congregation twice with the Wise People following the Star…
